Alabama high school football player dies after suffering injury during game

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama high school football player has died a day after he was critically injured during a game. Morgan Academy headmaster Bryan Oliver told Al.com that the quarterback Caden Tellier was hurt following a tackle in the third quarter of the school’s game Friday night against Southern Academy in Selma. Oliver said Tellier, a 16-year-old junior, suffered a brain injury and was flown to the University of Alabama at Birmingham hospital Friday night. Tellier’s family announced his death on social media. Oliver said the school is canceling all sports activities for the coming week, including this Friday’s scheduled football game at Wilcox Academy.

The herders, who are pushed to central Nigeria due to climate change pressures in the north, are destroying green areas and private front gardens and obstructing traffic. It is suggested that the herders practice a restricted system of pastoralism that would involve acquiring private land and operating like other businesses instead of depending on free resources wherever they can find them. But to stop roaming, they want designated grazing areas revived and the government to provide incentives as it supports other businesses.

Walmart recalls apple juice sold in 25 states due to elevated arsenic levels

WASHINGTON (AP) — Walmart has recalled nearly 10,000 cases of apple juice sold in stores across the U.S. The product was found to contain potentially harmful levels of inorganic arsenic. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration gave the recall a more urgent classification Friday after making its original announcement Aug. 15. The new classification says the affected product may cause temporary adverse health consequences but is unlikely to cause serious or irreversible medical issues. The recall applies to 9,535 cases of Great Value brand apple juice sold in 25 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia. Florida-based manufacturer Refresco Beverages US Inc. voluntarily recalled the contaminated six-packs of 8-ounce juice bottles.

BEIRUT (AP) — Lebanon' current premier says five-time former Prime Minister Salim Hoss has died at age 94. Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said Hoss died Sunday. He described Hoss, who was also a former government minister and member of parliament, as the “conscience of Lebanon” in a statement. Hoss served during some of the most tumultuous years of his country’s modern history. Hoss was often described as a technocrat and widely respected as a rare statesman in a country marked by political and sectarian divisions. He served as prime minister for four terms during the country’s 15-year civil war that lasted from 1975 to 1990. His final term in office was from 1998 to 2000.

American rapper Macklemore says he canceled Dubai show over UAE arming Sudan paramilitary forces

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — American rapper Macklemore says he canceled an upcoming October concert in Dubai over the United Arab Emirates’ role "in the ongoing genocide and humanitarian crisis” in Sudan. The UAE has denied arming Sudan's paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which have battled Sudan's military since 2023 in a conflict that has left over 18,800 people dead. Macklemore's comments reignited the debate over the UAE's role in the war. In a post Saturday on Instagram, the Grammy winner said he had a series of people “asking me to cancel the show in solidarity with the people of Sudan and to boycott doing business in the UAE for the role they are playing in the ongoing genocide and humanitarian crisis.”

Authorities recover body of Arizona woman who went missing in Grand Canyon after flash flood

SUPAI, Ariz. (AP) — Park rangers say the body of an Arizona woman who went missing in the Grand Canyon National Park after a flash flood days earlier has been recovered. The body of 33-year-old Chenoa Nickerson, from the Phoenix suburb of Gilbert, Arizona, was discovered by a group rafting down the Colorado River on Sunday. Park rangers recovered the body, which was transported to the rim by helicopter. National Park Service officials say Nickerson was swept into Havasu Creek above the Colorado River confluence around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. She wasn’t wearing a life jacket. More than 100 people were safely evacuated.
