Nestled in a small town in North Dakota, you’ll find the Burleigh County Detention Center. The Burleigh County Detention Center is a place where inmates will get brought to if:
- They are convicted of a crime.
- There is no room in the city jail.
- They are awaiting trial (no bond allowed)
It is not common for the Burleigh County Detention Center to take inmates in from surrounding areas too. But regularly, the inmates who call this facility home, for the time being, are typically residents.
To be quite honest, the Burleigh County Detention Center is only legally allowed to have no more than 130 inmates in their custody at one time. This inmate limit will include their full-time inmates and their inmates on work release and weekend programs.
Phone Time
If this is the first time you know someone in prison, you may think the only way they can physically call you is by doing it collect. And you know that collect calls are beyond expensive.
Well, luckily, that is not the only method anymore in the Burleigh County Detention Center. Now, you can go through this company called Reliance. Reliance is a third-party telephone company that allows inmates to use them and their calling cards to call home. This way is a lot more cost-effective than the traditional calling home collect.
For this to work, you will need to give the inmate money in their commissary account to purchase calling cards so that they can call home.
Leaving Money for Inmates
Leaving money for inmates is a vital thing you need to do. Whether it’s only going a couple of bucks a week or $100 a month, money is highly required for inmates.
Without having money in their accounts, inmates cannot call home, write home, or purchase anything else they may need as well.
The Burleigh County Detention Center gives you three painless ways to give inmates money.
The first way is for those families who live close to the facility. If you live close, you can come into the lobby and find the self-service kiosk. The kiosk will accept cards and cash. You will need to know the inmate’s information.
The second way is for those families who do not want to leave their homes or those who live further away and cannot make it to the facility. You can log on to the JAILATM website. This website is straightforward to navigate and use. You will also need to know the inmate’s information to deposit money successfully. Fees do apply.
If you are not down to pay for fees or don’t have the money to always spend on costs, you can still get a cashier’s check or money order and send it to the following address.
Burleigh County Detention Center
PO Box 2499
Bismarck, ND 58502
Always fill out the money order with the inmate’s full name, POD number, and ID number. This method will take longer than the first two, so the money won’t hit their account for a while.
Leben for Sheriff
Burleigh County Inmates and the general community of Burleigh County are why Leben wanted to be sheriff. Leben came from a law enforcement background. He was backed by so many individuals throughout the organization when first running for sheriff in 2018.
Leben is very humbled and wants to make Burleigh County safe for families to work, play, and live here.
He can always be reached at the Sheriff’s office or can be spotted around town too!
How to Leave Voice Messages for Inmates?
Unlike other county correctional facilities, the Burleigh County Detention Center allows you to leave inmates’ voice messages. To leave a voice message for an inmate, you will need to call 701-354-3292.
When is Visitation?
**With COVID-19 running rampant throughout many states, as a precaution, the visiting hours/guidelines may differ from week to week. Call the facility to learn more.**
Visitation is typically every Thursday and Tuesday (minus holidays). The visiting hours are held from 1 pm to 4 pm.
If you plan on visiting, you must dress appropriately and be over the age of 18. If you are not over 18, you must visit with your parent or another legal guardian. You will need to show a photo ID to the guards before being allowed in.
Inmates are only allowed to have two visitors at one time. Visits can only last up to 20 minutes per visiting day per inmate.
Inmates are only allowed to receive visitors after going through their admissions process, where they fill out their visitation forms. This typically takes a full day or two.
Work Release Program General Information
Unlike a lot of other county facilities, the Burleigh County Detention Center is ahead of its time. This facility offers work release and weekend inmate programs. These programs are a privilege. These programs are typically earned. Not every inmate will be allowed to participate in these programs. There will be loops that the inmate will need to jump through before being granted such a program. But these programs are offered here in the facility. You will need to contact the facility for further information.
Burleigh County Inmates
Everyone loves when you can find a jail roster online without having to call a law enforcement facility. Everyone knows that calling a law enforcement facility can be a long drawn out task.
At least, the Burleigh County Jail has their jail roster with mugshots available to you using this link. The jail roster is updated directly from the detention center. It is updated many times throughout the day. Keep your eyes peeled on the new information that comes on to it.
Of course, if you are looking for when an inmate will get released/bailed out or any other time-sensitive information, you will need to get in touch with the detention center.
